New Dutch minimum wage in 2023 undermines higher-educated salary.
Due to inflation and high energy costs, the Dutch minimum wage and benefits, including state pensions, will be increased by 10,15% from January 1,2023.
This is also necessary, but will cause discontent in the workplace due to the fact that salaries for the higher educated will not increase much, if at all.
The starting salary for a bachelor in the Netherlands is between 1,800 and 2,500 euros.
That’s an average of 2,150 euros.
The current minimum wage for 36 hours a week is 1,756.20 euros.
The starting salary for a bachelor is 22.42 percent more.
At 36 hours a week
With the 10.15 percent increase, the minimum wage will become 1,934.45 for 36 hours. (12.40/hour)
To make up the initial 22.42 percent difference, the bachelor’s salary would have to become 2,368.20.
At 40 hours a week
In 2022, the minimum wage for 40 hours is 1,951.33.
That will be increased to 2,149.39 in 2023
The bachelor salary from 2,150 euros for 36 hours will then become 2,388.89 euros for 40 hours.
To make up the initial 22.42 percent difference, the bachelor’s salary would have to become 2,631.20.
And it cannot be that you study for 4 years and accumulate student debt, only to end up with no more than the minimum wage in 2023.
Nieuw minimumloon 2023 ondergraaft salaris hoger opgeleiden.
Vanwege de inflatie en hoge energiekosten worden het minimumloon en de uitkeringen, waaronder de AOW, met 10,15% verhoogd.
Dat is ook wel nodig, maar zal op de werkvloer tot onvrede gaan leiden vanwege het feit dat de salarissen voor de hoger opgeleiden niet of nauwelijks zullen stijgen.
Het startsalaris voor een bachelor in Nederland ligt tussen de 1.800 en 2.500 euro.
Dat is gemiddeld 2.150 euro.

Het bachelorsalaris van 2.150 euro voor 36 uur wordt dan 2.388,89 euro voor 40 uur.
Om het aanvankelijke verschil van 22,42 procent goed te maken, zou het bachelorsalaris 2.631,20 moeten worden.
En het kan niet zo zijn dat je 4 jaar studeert en een studieschuld opbouwt, om uiteindelijk in 2023 niet meer dan het minimumloon over te houden.
